Animal-Loving Band Will Play Benefit Show for ARL
On Saturday, November 29 Leo*Leo, a duo producing Bossa Nova inspired Rock and Roll with flavors of Soul and Disco will play a concert benefiting the Animal Rescue League. Band members Vanessa and Sarah are huge animal lovers and have adopted three animals from the ARL’s shelters.
Their cockatiel, Meegs, is their band mascot. When Sarah cooks Meegs will often fly over to the stove, land on the pan handle and “communicate” just what needs to happen next in the recipe. Otherwise, he is perched next to Vanessa, as she plays guitar, and he corrects her notes with his own. If a visitor should come to the band loft, Meegs flies over and lands on their head and allows them in. This is why he is afforded the nickname, “The Foreman.”
He is also one of 3 reasons why Leo*Leo is honored to play a show benefiting the Animal Rescue League of Boston. The other two reasons are Sarah Hope’s dutch shepherd mix, named Sophia (pictured with Meegs) and Vanessa’s chihuahua/terrier named Basil (you can see her all over their instagram).

ARL Joined Tuna at the Revere Hotel
Tuna loves his ARL “See Something, Say Something” doggie t-shirt!
We’re very grateful to Tuna Melts My Heart and BarkBox for choosing to raise awareness and funds for the Animal Rescue League during the Boston leg of the Tuna Tour!
Last Wednesday, we joined Tuna and his delightful mom, Courtney, at the Revere Hotel Boston Common for their Meet and Greet Event, one of several on their U.S. tour where they’re raising awareness about animal shelters everywhere.
Tuna is a lovable a 3 year-old rescue Chiweenie who has captured the hearts of animal lovers across the U.S. His Instagram account has made him quite the canine celebrity. He’s even been on E!.
Hundreds of people lined up outside the event for a chance to meet Tuna. The very generous animal lovers donated over $500 to support shelter pets here at the ARL. Several people who donated received our limited release ARL “See Something, Say Something” doggie t-shirts.
Thank you to Tuna, BarkBox and The Revere Hotel for giving us the opportunity to participate in this event and get the word out about the great work of the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
If you have a dog and want to register for BarkBox – a monthly box of dog goodies delivered to your door – now’s the time! If you register for BarkBox using this link barkbox.com/tuna, you’ll get 10% off your order and BarkBox will donate $15 for each subscription to eight animal shelters nation-wide, including the ARL!

Thank You Amelia Hughes, Urban Grape & Polka Dog Bakery
This past Saturday, the Urban Grape – a neighborhood wine store with locations in Boston’s South End and Chestnut Hill – held a B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Dog) wine tasting event at their shops and donated 10% of Saturday’s sales to the Animal Rescue League of Boston. They raised $1500 for our shelter animals!
We’d like to extend a special thank you to Amelia Hughes, an extraordinarily generous volunteer and donor, and member of the ARL’s Board of Overseers, who was named Urban Grape’s customer of the month and selected the ARL as her charity of choice!
While humans were enjoying tasting various wines, Polka Dog Bakery was on site providing snacks of the canine-kind for all of the dogs in attendance. They generously donated all proceeds from treats purchased at the tasting to the ARL.
Thank you to everyone who helped support the animals at the ARL through this event! We are so very grateful to have such a wonderful community of supportive donors and businesses!
