The League is the only animal welfare agency in Massachusetts that has an entire department dedicated to field animal rescue services. Its members respond to a range of emergencies that include injured wildlife and stray pets, fires, as well as pets trapped in trees, on ice or in other difficult and inaccessible places.
“We train for just about anything… to get cats out of trees, large animal rescues, chemical immobilization, ice rescues in the wintertime, boat and water safety on still water during the summer, as well as high angle rescue techniques – elevated rescue, rappelling, raising and lowering off of steep angles or cliffs.” – Brian O’Connor, Manager of Rescue Services
Our Rescue Specialists also assist the League’s law enforcement division in responding to cases of animal abuse. In addition, they’ve partnered with other animal welfare groups to assist with rescues in the aftermath of major natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, the Haitian earthquake and Hurricane Sandy.
