Not Even A Blizzard Will Stop Us

winterThe immense dedication of our staff members was exhibited this past weekend during the Blizzard of 2013. League President Mary Nee, said that “with the Blizzard of 2013, I have now witnessed first-hand the extraordinary efforts of ARL/B staff to ensure that all animals were cared for and all people and facilities were safe and secure.”

Several shelter staff members worked from Friday through Sunday morning to care for animals, even sleeping at the shelters. When our Brewster shelter lost power on Saturday, shelter staff along with our Rescue Team braved the weather conditions to evacuate animals, delivering them safely to our Dedham and Boston locations. Our Facilities Management team worked tirelessly to make sure that our shelters were safe and accessible. Thanks to you, not only can we give our animals extraordinary love and care, we are always prepared to rise to the challenge in an emergency.

Sounds like it’s time for a Generator Fund fundraising effort for Brewster! It would be really cool if Brewster and the other locations found a way to install solar PV power systems, so they have power no matter what the weather. Are there any government grants and/or loans available for non-profits to help fund such a system?

Also, remember the role of conservation in any renewable energy strategy. Are the shelters using efficient lighting, appliances and equipment? Are there grants and/or loans available for purchases of efficient items?
