On Monday afternoon the League’s Rescue Department assisted the Boston Animal Control Officer in the retrieval of a young kitten abandoned in the sealed cardboard box (pictured at right), labeled with the word “TAKE,” and left in the hot sun in Dorchester. The kitten was brought to our Boston location and immediately seen by one of our shelter veterinarians. The kitten, who was covered in fleas, received a flea bath upon examination. Our dedicated shelter staff and volunteers stayed after hours to take care of this little kitten and took the video of her flea bath shown below.
Our Rescue Team has lovingly named the sweet little girl “ARIEL.” Her health continues to be monitored by our shelter medicine team. She is very tiny and will be placed in a foster home until she is old enough to be adopted. The picture (below) is of Ariel from yesterday. She had just finished eating and was trying to wash her face. (She must have known that she was being photographed and wanted to look her best for the camera!)
We are so thankful to the “Good Samaritans” who found the box and called for help. Under Massachusetts law it is a felony to cruelly abandon an animal.

Bless all of you for helping little Ariel.
She is beautiful. I would love to adopt her to come live with a beautiful Siamese I adopted from you 4 years ago and an adopted Tabby who would love a playmate.
What a little sweetheart. Glad you guys found her.
